Caring for Your Braces

After getting braces, you should expect to have a more challenging time taking care of your teeth. The countless tiny spaces in braces allow food to trap, causing plaque, which is the cause of many dental problems. It is essential to prepare yourself and your child for the extra responsibility required to care for braces properly.

Brushing Your Braces

It is essential to clean them carefully with braces because plaque bacteria can quickly accumulate inside and around them. It is simple and effective to brush and floss your teeth every day if you follow this procedure. Ensure that you clean your braces. To clean around the wires and pins of your braces, hold your brush at a 45-degree angle. Start brushing at the top of each wire and work your way to the bottom. If you have a lot of plaque and debris on your teeth, take your time to remove them all and ensure that you go all the way around your upper and lower teeth.

Floss in Between

Make sure you floss daily. Follow the directions on the packaging or ask a dental professional how to floss appropriately. If you have braces or orthodontic work, you may want to use a floss threader. Rinse your mouth thoroughly. Examine your braces and teeth in a mirror after thoroughly rinsing with water or mouthwash.
